Lawyer Mercer Shakes Sekondi NPP
The forecourt of the Sekondi constituency office
of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was turned into a
mini rally ground on Wednesday when one of the
aspiring Members of Parliament (MPs) for the area,
Andrew Egyapa Mercer, went to file his nomination
forms.

Mr Mercer, a legal practitioner and native of
Sekondi in the Western Region, accompanied by
dozens of his supporters, were at the NPP
constituency office at Komfo Ase in Sekondi at
about 3:30 pm to file his papers to officially
contest the parliamentary primaries on the ticket
of the party.

Before the filing, Mr. Mercer and his supporters
embarked on a brief procession through the streets
of Sekondi amid drumming and dancing and later
converged at the Sekondi constituency office of
the party.

Speaking to journalists later, the aspiring MP
noted that Ghana deserves a government that would
secure the future of the country. “And that
government can only be an NPP government led by
Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said.

He told the teeming supporters that his campaign
was about making Sekondi a better place to live
and work adding, “Sekondi needs to be renewed
and reborn.”

He therefore appealed to the party’s delegates
in the constituency to give him the opportunity to
lead the party in the 2016 general elections to
contribute to the development of Sekondi and
Ghana.

While praising the current MP for Sekondi, Papa
Owusu Ankomah, for the great works he had done for
the people, Lawyer Mercer mentioned that there was
the need to revive industries that created jobs
for the youth.

“Our educational infrastructure needs revamping
and retooling; our health facilities require
massive injection of funds to meet the health
needs of the people,” he indicated, adding that
“All these and more will be at the forefront of
my service to the people of Sekondi as I intend to
advocate strongly on behalf of this town for a
proportionate share of the national cake during
the next NPP government.”

Mr. Mercer told the excited supporters that the
economic woes that the NDC government, led by
President John Mahama, had plunged the country
into were legendary and unprecedented.

Receiving the nomination papers, the constituency
chairman expressed the hope that the upcoming
contest would be devoid of insults and acrimony.

Two other aspirants, Sampson Nimako Darko and
Kingsful K. Acquah, who picked nomination forms,
were yet to file them.
