Power Minister must apologize to NPP – Sir John
Former General Secretary of the opposition New
Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie
popularly called Sir John wants the Power Minister
to apologize for mocking the party’s “Wɔn
Gbo” demonstration. The NPP on Wednesday
embarked on the demonstration to protest what they
say is the debilitating effect of the power crisis
on Ghanaians and worsening economic situation in
the country.

But in response to the protest, the Power
Minister, Kwabena Donkor described the
demonstration as a “health walk.” Speaking on
the Point Blank segment of Eyewitness News, Sir
John argued that they embarked on the protest for
““the majority of Ghanaians who are
suffering” hence it was necessary. Sir John
demanded an apology from the Minister and
described his comments as insulting. “…I have
heard the [Power] minister arrogantly saying that
we were just on an exercise and that we wanted to
trim down. Let him delude himself by saying that
we were just exercising. It’s an insult to the
people of this country and I wished that he had
come to apologize to the people of this country
for insulting our intelligence.”

Gbo’ demonstration on Wednesday

Sir John suggested that the Minister’ comments
were inappropriate and that his time would be
better spent trying to find solutions to the
current energy crisis. “Such arrogance must not
be part of our politics. Those that the gods will
destroy first make them mad. If I were the
minister I should have been to the office first
thing in the morning at 5 am with all his advisors
asking what could be done in the immediate term to
alleviate Ghanaians from this unnecessary and
unwarranted problems that we find ourselves in,”
he said. ‘Competent’ executives will lead NPP
to victory in 2016 Sir John also reiterated his
confidence in the current executives of the NPP,
stating that he believes they will lead the party
to victory in 2016. Responding to a question on
whether he believes the current executives had
done better that his administration, Sir John
replied: “Of course, If they were not I would
be very disappointed. If you have a child and you
get to a certain stage and you did not train the
child to move above where you reached then you
would have not fulfilled your mission.” He
added: “I have left the party in very competent
hands and I have no doubt in my mind at all that
they will lead us to the promised land. I am very
happy that they have performed creditably and they
have put the doubting Thomases to shame.”
