DCOP Kofi Boakye

Otumfuo to honour Kofi Boakye
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will
tomorrow commission the refurbished offices of the
Ashanti Regional Police Command headquarters in
Kumasi.

The refurbishment of the structures built during
the colonial era was initiated by Regional
Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye who assumed office
about 10 months ago.

Otumfuo has acknowledged what he described as
excellent leadership exhibited by the Regional
Commander, resulting in a reduction in crime and a
boost to police image in the region.

Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor has assessed the
10 months tenure of DCOP Kofi Boakye and reports
that among the new facilities created at the
command headquarters is a modern conference hall.

Ten months ago, the Central Police yard was
virtually a parking lot for impounded vehicles,
motorcycles and other equipment some of which had
not been claimed for years.

The building itself cried for repairs, after years
of habitation without any major renovation.

After taking over, DCOP Kofi Boakye, cleared all
the vehicles and set limits for only official
police vehicles.

He rallied companies, institutions, chiefs and
well- meaning individuals to share in his vision
of transforming the service.

Building materials, paint, glass doors and cement
came in. The result is total transformation of the
regional police headquarters.

Offices now have tiled floors, well painted walls,
modern conference room and a very tidy compound
with well mowed flower porch and hedges are there
to show for his achievements.

It is not only the infrastructure that has
changed, Erastus indicated.

DCOP Kofi Boakye has also set up the Discipline
Unit.

Crime has reduced dramatically with a number of
arrests to his credit.

Recently the Asantehene, attested to this,
commending his strong resistance to political and
all forms of bias in fighting crime.

The people love his strong will in the crusade
against criminals no matter who is involved. He
has a new tag: the people call him ‘Commander
1.’

Tomorrow the Asantehene is expected to crown his
achievement over the last 10 months.
