Burkinabes in Ghana massing up at Embassy
Scores of Burkinabes in Ghana are picketing at
their Embassy in Asylum Down, Accra. The teeming
crowd wants the Mission staff to close since
“there is a state of emergency” in the West
African country.

The French-speaking country which shares borders
with Ghana at the north has been ravaged in
political turmoil since Thursday after protesters
set its Parliament House ablaze, calling on
President Blaise Compaore to resign immediately.

Protesters are back on the streets, Friday, to
register their wrath at the embattled president
who has vowed to remain in power for a year under
a transitional government.

According to Starr News’ Kobby Gomez, the
Burkinabe Embassy in Ghana has allowed three of
the ‘protesters’ into its premises to confer
with the Ambassador while the rest of the group
wait outside.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon's special envoy for West
Africa, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, is expected in
Burkina Faso to try to ease the crisis, the UN
said. ECOWAS has also declared it will not
recognise any “illegal government takeover”.
