Scrap ECOWAS,other regional blocs – Badu Akosa
A former Director General of the Ghana Health
Service, Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa is
proposing a scrap of the various regional bodies
in Africa for “failing” to leave up to
expectations.

According to him, Sub-regional blocs such as the
African Union and the ECOWAS have become puppets
for the West.

“The African Union as I know it today, is not
what our founding fathers perceived. The history
of Africa is such that one tiny country can’t do
it alone. Africa must come together and realise
that by virtue of the abundant of the resources in
Africa, the rest of the world will not seat down
and watch Africa do its own thing” he told a
gathering at the launch of the 'Drolor Center for
Strategic Leadership' at the University of
Professional Studies in Accra .

He added: “The AU is sitting down and expecting
the European Union and the American government to
fund it, and therefore everything they do is
influenced by the powers that be. Africa must
realise that the European Union was setup to
maintain the status quo. I wish that the regional
blocs had never occurred so that we sit down and
think of an African wide issues. In my opinion,
the regional blocs must be scraped because it is
not working”.

He urged African leaders to be “introspective”
of the developments on the continent and challenge
themselves to improve the living conditions of
their people.
