70,000 double registrations detected on Voters register - EC reveals Over 70,000 cases of double registration have been
identified in the Voters register, the Electoral
Commission has revealed.
The infractions occurred during the 2012 and 2014
voters registration exercise.
According to the EC Spokesperson, Christian Owusu
Parry, the development smacks of a certain doubt
on the minds of the public of the EC’s ability
to detect anomalies on the register.
“It probably means that people don’t believe
that we will match finger prints and we will be
able to detect all the multiple entries. We have
the software that uses a complex system to detect
the multiple registrations”, he stated.
He noted that the Commission is investigating the
culprits and will punish people found to have
breached the electoral laws deliberately.
“ We are trying to ascertain whether those
people did double registration intentionally or it
was through no faults of theirs that their records
appeared for the second time in the database. For
those that did it intentionally, their names will
be taken out of the register”. Source - Starrfmonline
