Akufo-Addo polls 94.35% to lead NPP in 2016 elections Nana Akufo-Addo floored Alan Kyerematen in the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race for the 2016
elections.
Nana Addo, who was pundits' favourite prior to the
primaries, polled 117, 413 votes representing
94.35 per cent as against 5,908 representing 4.75
per cent by Alan Kyerematen.
The other contender Francis Addai Nimoh secured
1,198 representing 0.91 per cent, according to
official results declared by the Electoral
Commission at the Efua Sutherland Park.
A total of 141,000 delegates of the main
opposition were expected to have voted on Saturday
to give the former Foreign Affairs Minister the
nod to lead the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition in
the next general elections.
Losers – Kyerematen and Nimoh – have already
called the two-time presidential candidate to
congratulate him.
After the declaration of the official results at
the Efua Sutherland park in Accra Saturday night,
Kyerematen likened the competition between
Akufo-Addo and himself, to a football game between
archrivals Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
He said irrespective of the results, the two
always gave their fans something to cheer about. Source - Starrfmonline
