Jailed DCE can come back to post - Lawyer
The District Chief Executive jailed two weeks for
insulting a High Court Judge and throwing his
shoes at a bailiff can come back to office, says a
private legal practitioner.

Paul Kumi, the lawyer, said on Newsnite on Joy FM
Monday that although the DCE will earn a
dishonourable title as an ex-convict after serving
his jail term, he will not be disqualified from
continuing as a public officer.

“The constitution talks about an ex-convict not
qualified to be a Member of Parliament or take up
public positions but that is where the said
ex-convict is involved in a serious offence, like
murder, rape and things of those serious
nature”, he said.

District Chief Executive of Twifo Praso, Bossman
Osei Hyeama was convicted Monday, for insulting
the High Court Judge and the bailiff of the court
of the Cape Coast High Court in the Central
Region.

Presiding Judge, Nana Adjoa Coleman then sentenced
the DCE to prison at the Ankaful Prisons.

The DCE became unhappy when an injunction was
placed on a demolition exercise he was
spearheading at the Twifo Praso market. The DCE
was convinced the judges had been compromised.

Paul Kumi said although the DCE disrespected the
law, his offence and subsequent incarceration will
not bar him from remaining in office.

“The DCE will have the ignoble title of an
ex-convict but fortunately for him, it will not go
against him”, he explained.

Meanwhile, a case of contempt of court awaits the
DCE when he returns from jail
