Family Demands Justice
The family of the late Joseph Kwaakye Akowuah is
calling for the prosecution of the perpetrators
behind the killing of the deceased.

Kwaakye Akowuah, 28, was allegedly shot by three
policemen namely- Joshua Kudjo, Moro Tindana and
Henry Senning at Ayi Mensah in Accra on July 10,
2013.

The deceased who served as a supervisor of a team
of security persons on an acquired land belonging
to BIEGE Capital was said to have met his untimely
death when the three policemen shot through a car
he was sitting, mistaking him for an armed
robber.

A report issued on the cause of death signed by Dr
Lawrence Edusei from the Department of Pathology,
Korle-Bu, said the victim died as a result of
'haemorrhagic shock, abdomino pelvic injuries and
high velocity gun shot.'

Police Report
A report on the incident dated June 25, 2014
authored by one J. A. Naami, Chief Superintendent
Operations, CID, said a complaint from one Frank
Agyeman, an agent from BIEGE Capital to the effect
that he was contracted by the company to recruit
some young men to assist Access Control Security
Services Rapid Response guards to provide security
for the construction of a fence wall on a 15,000
acre land at Danfa.

The report stated that on the said date, the
complainant was informed that his men came to town
in his Rexton 4X4 vehicle to buy food and on their
return; someone beckoned them to stop which they
failed.

Consequently, the report stated 'all of a sudden,
they heard gunshots from the police and the bullet
hit Joseph Akowuah, aka Big Joe, and they
abandoned him in the vehicle and run away.'

Demand for Justice
However, a year after the burial of Kwaakye
Akowuah, the family insists justice has not been
served, particularly when the perpetrators of the
crime had not been brought to book.

They argued that the three cops have been shielded
from justice by the police administration,
insisting the culprits must be punished for the
offence

Police Explains
When J. A. Naami, Chief Superintendent for
Operations, CID, was contacted by this reporter to
inquire about the status of the case, he was
emphatic that the docket on the case had been
forwarded to the Attorney-General's Department
(A-G) for advice.

Insisting the police would not shield any erring
officer, he said a lot of investigations and
diligent work ought to be done in such cases.

J. A. Naami at the CID, however, expressed
misgivings about the family running to the media
to address their grievances instead of following
up on the case at the police headquarters.
