President attends UN General Assembly
Accra, Sept. 20, GNA - President John Dramani
Mahama has left Ghana for the United States, to
attend the 69th United Nations General Assembly in
New York.

He is scheduled to address the Assembly on
Thursday September 25, during the general debate
on the theme: "Delivering on and implementing a
transformative post-2015 development agenda.”

President Mahama, who was accompanied by the first
lady-Lordina Mahama and some ministers of state
and senior officials, is expected to speak in
relation to the theme in the context of Ghana and
to tout Ghana's favorable standing in the world as
a nation with one of the highest returns on
investment.

Head of Communication and Presidential
Spokesperson Mr Ben Dotsei Malor stated in an
advisory issued before departure that President
Mahama, as Chair of ECOWAS -and drawing on his
visit earlier this week to Liberia, Sierra Leone
and Guinea, is highlighting the need for a
concerted international support for these nations
in the fight against the Ebola virus, which has
claimed lives and severely affected a number of
people.

"The President continues to strengthen his
advocacy that these countries should not be
stigmatised, isolated and abandoned at this moment
of need."

On the margins of the assembly, President Mahama
would participate in other events including the UN
Climate Summit to be organised by UN Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon and aimed at galvanising
climate change action.

He would also be special guest and keynote speaker
at Harvard University, giving a lecture on the
theme: "Economic Governance in Uncharted Waters,"
and a second lecture at Brandeis University on the
theme: "The Promise of Africa".

He would also travel to Dubai to attend the
African Global Business Forum on October 1.
