Gov't Seeks Partnership in Tackling Cholera
The Minister of Local Government and Rural
Development, Julius Debrah, has called on players
within the private sector to join hands in
tackling the recent cholera outbreak in the
country that has affected over 3,100 people.

Over 40 people in Accra have been reported killed
by the pandemic.

Mr Debrah made the call when the Ministry met with
the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association
(GIBA) to discuss programmes on how to control the
cholera outbreak.

According to the Minister , 'The public sector or
government alone cannot do everything, so there is
therefore the need for effective collaboration and
partnership to move this country forward.'

The Minister was optimistic that the collaboration
with GIBA would help create awareness in order to
eradicate cholera completely from the country.

On his part, the President of GIBA, Akwasi
Agyeman, attributed the cholera outbreak to
indiscriminate dumping of refuse within major
urban areas across the country.

According to him, there is the need for
attitudinal change on the part of Ghanaians on how
they treat their surroundings, adding, 'City
authorities alone cannot keep our country clean.
We all need to contribute to keeping our
environment clean.'

He assured the general public that GIBA would
continue to collaborate with other stakeholders in
addressing sanitation issues across Ghana.
