Fuel Crisis Affects Metro Mass Operations The fuel shortage that has hit the
Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis for the past few days
has adversely affected the operations of the Metro
Mass Transport in the Western Region.
Due to the current fuel shortage in the region,
Metro Mass Transport is at present operating only
10 percent of its 87 fleet of buses operating in
the region.
The Western regional capital of Sekondi-Takoradi
has been hit with fuel shortage for the past
weeks, forcing a mad rush for few gallons of the
product in the region.
Some of the fuel filling stations DAILY GUIDE
visited at the Takoradi Market Circle, Sekondi,
Essikadu, Apremdo and Kwesimintsim; the fuel
attendants confirmed the shortage.
The visit also revealed that local fishermen were
also struggling to get supplies of premix fuel for
their operations.
The situation has compelled the Western Regional
Offices of the Metro Mass Transport to park most
of the vehicles because the company can no longer
get fuel to operate them.
Speaking to journalists, Kignsley Adjei Mensah,
Western Regional Depot Manager of the Metro Mass
Transport, noted that the fuel shortage is having
a toll on the company's operations in the region.
'For the past three weeks, we have not been able
to operate at out full strength even though we
have buses ready,' he stressed.
He stated that the situation was worrying and
discouraging as only 10 percent of the buses in
the region are in operation as a result of the
fuel shortage.
'As at 9:00am yesterday, we were supposed to make
about five buses to Kumasi, but because of the
fuel shortage we were struggling to get two buses
to Kumasi as at that time,' he noted.
He pointed out that most of the buses also going
to Juaboso and Sefwi Wiawso had also been parked
due to the shortage.
Mr Mensah indicated that Ghana Oil is a major
stakeholder and that even though Metro Mass
Transport had paid money to the fuel supplying
company, his outfit is yet to get the product.
He, however, called on the travelling public to
continue to have confidence in Metro Mass
Transport as it is ready to offer quality in the
transport service which is second to none. Source - Daily Guide
