Kufuor's absence at NPP conference not deliberate – Frank Agyekum Frank Agyekum, spokesperson for former President
Kufuor has rebuffed claims that his boss' absence
at the just ended national delegates conference of
the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was
deliberate.
He said the former president as a thoroughbred of
the NPP has no intention to depart from the ideals
and principles of the party.
Mr. Kufuor was on an international assignment when
about 5,200 delegates voted to elect national
executives to steer affairs of the party for the
next four years.
Apart from the National Women’s Organizer, Otiko
Afisa Djaba who retained her position, the entire
leadership was overhauled to the surprise of many
political pundits.
But many people especially members of the
governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have
questioned the absence of Mr. Kufuor.
They argue that a programme as important as the
National Delegates Conference of the NPP should
not under any circumstance be missed by the
party's former leader, saying that could be a sign
of disunity in the party.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme
Thursday, Frank Agyekum stated unequivocally that
claims were completely unfounded. He also added
that the former president does not have any camp
in the NPP.
According to him, as a statesman and party elder,
Mr. Kufuor will not pursue any agenda that will
divide the party.
Frank Agyekum noted that the former president
would have been the first to go to Tamale but the
invitation for the international assignment came
long before the party scheduled the date for the
conference.
He indicated that Mr. Kufuor, made it a point to
attend all party activities in his capacity as an
elder of the NPP anytime he was in the country.
Mr. Agyekum said former president Kufuor’s
greatest desire is to see the NPP back to power
therefore he will not do anything to ruin their
chances.

executives to unite both winners and losers for a
united front to wrestle power in 2016”. Source - MyjoyOnline
