Angry NPP youth on rampage; burn billboards over MMDCE nominations
Irate youth in Savelugu-Nanton municipality of the
Northern region are on rampage following the
appointment of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as the
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The youth burnt NPP bill boards to demonstrate
their dissatisfaction with the choice of the
president as his executive presence in the area.

The chaos is part of mixed reactions towards the
release of 212 names for Metropolitan, Municipal
and District Chief Executives.

'It is obvious that only one person can occupy
that position' Local Government minister Hajia
Alima told a press conference during the
announcement of the nominations.
These are people with expertise, experience and
temperament for the position" she said.

But ritualistic internal party opposition has been
sparked once again with the news.

It had to take the intervention of the police to
quell the disturbances in Savelugu-Nanton where
the youth, some clad in the NPP T-shirts,
protested.
But the youth have served notice, they will make
the area ungovernable for President Akufo-Addo's
representative if he does not immediately revoke
the nomination of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as MCE for
the area.

In the Upper East region, NPP youth at Zebilla in
the Bawku West district vandalized party and
government properties last night.

It was in a preemptive attempt to prevail on the
president not to consider Victoria Ayamba as the
DCE. They preferred Patrick Ayaaba.
But the list released Wednesday has confirmed
their worst fears. Victoria Ayamba is the
president's choice. There is an uneasy calm in the
area following the news.

Police are already investigating the disturbances
which led to the destruction of properties at the
offices of Non-Formal division, Youth Employment
Agency, Social welfare, Community Development,
Client office unit and others at the Bawku West
district assembly.

The police say they have been given 10 names of
NPP youth who are suspected to have been part of
the disturbances.

Bawku West police commander, ASP Emmanuel
Honi-Broni has told Joy News, although the names
were given at a District Security Council meeting
with party executives Wedsnesday morning, no
arrests have been made.

Joy News' Upper East regional correspondent Albert
Sore has also reported there's another looming
protest at Sandema in the Builsa North district as
angry NPP youth kick against the nomination of
David Afoko the current party chairman as a DCE
for the area.

The youth say the party chairman who is related to
suspended NPP Chairman Paul Afoko worked against
the party's chances during the 2016 elections.
The youth say David Afoko is just another version
of his brother and point out that the part chair
was publicly campaigning against for the party
during the elections last December.
