Dr Antwi-Danso, Dean of Academic Affairs at Ghana Armed Forces Every polling station is potential flashpoint - Antwi-Danso The Dean of Academic Affairs at Ghana Armed Forces
and Staff College has urged security agencies to
expand their radar of hostility-prone areas during
the December elections to cover every polling
station in the country.
Vladimir Antwi-Danso explains the unhealthy
politics in the country makes the 5,000 election
flashpoints identified by the 2016 National
Elections and Security Task-force ahead of the
polls a small figure.
“All the 29,000 polling stations should be put
under that radar. They are all potential
flashpoints. The country is reeling under a
psychology that this election is a do-and-die
affair. Politics has become a zero-sum game,” he
laments.
Dr Antwi-Danso was speaking Tuesday on current
affairs programme, PM Express, aired on the Joy
News channel on Multi TV.
Police have said they are putting measures in
place to ensure that the flashpoints do not pose
any risk going into election 2016, but Antwi-Danso
foresees a daunting task for the security
personnel.
“Elsewhere if we understand democracy, who wins
an election does not matter, how the person rules
is what matters. But now we are more concerned
about who wins. Under such a situation people
don’t reason,” he said.
He blamed the media for fueling the damaging
political climate and discourse that he says makes
the upcoming elections very heightened.
“There is so much indiscipline in the
country,” he said. Source - Myjoyonline.com
