One-term President Akufo-Addo distributing positions like confetti – Anyidoho
Deputy General Secretary of the opposition
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho
has said President Nana Akufo Addo is trying to
satisfy party members by making
‘indiscriminate’ appointments as he’ll be in
power for one term.

According to him, the President is trying to fix
as many people as he can before he leaves office
in the next three years lest he’s accused of not
doing much for his people at the end of his
reign.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed 110
ministers in total, making his government the
biggest in the Fourth Republic.

The previous NPP government led by former
President John Kufuor had 88 ministers while the
Mills administration that succeeded it had 69
ministerial appointees. The Mahama administration,
however, had 78 ministerial appointments.

The appointments have been met with mixed reaction
from the public. Whereas some believe the size
does not matter but results is what is most
important, others are of the view that the
appointees will be a drain on state coffers.

But Koku Anyidoho who has slammed Akufo Addo for
his ‘elephant’ size government stated that the
appointments smacks of incompetence when it comes
to forming a government.

“Nana Akufo Addo knows he’ll be a one-term
president so he needs to shower the positions so
that each and every has his share. What is going
on is a mark of a one-term president. The NPP has
made governance unattractive, distributing
positions like confetti, what are these nominees
going to do. I’ve heard people faught for
ministerial positions becuase of the ex-gratia
they’ll receive at the end of their tenure.”

He added: “When I opened the newspapers and saw
the published pictures of many men and women, I
initially thought they were armed robbers who had
been arrested or lost and found persons.

I watched carefully again and saw the
caption..more deputy ministerial nominees and I
said hey…where are we heading towards as a
country.”
