President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a handshake with Chief David Asante-Apeatu

Akufo-Addo summons IGP over Delta Force court mayhem
President Nana Akufo-Addo, ClassFMonline.com has
learnt, has summoned police chief David
Asante-Apeatu to the Flagstaff House over
Thursday’s violent attack on a Kumasi Circuit
Court by some members of pro-government vigilante
group Delta Force to free 13 of their colleagues
who were standing trial for an earlier violence
meted out on the Regional Security Coordinator.

The court, presided over by Mary Nsenkyire, had
ordered that the 13 suspects be remanded to
reappear on 20 April.

However, the irate Delta Force who had gathered at
the court took the suspects away, vandalised court
property and almost assaulted the judge in the
process.

Only two police officers on duty at the court, one
of them being a pregnant officer, managed to whisk
the judge into her chambers for protection.

The 13 were on trial for assaulting the Ashanti
regional security coordinator, George Agyei, who
they said could not be allowed to serve in that
capacity given he was not native to the region and
did not help in the campaign towards the NPP’s
victory in 2016.

He was prevented from performing his duties, being
yanked from his office on Friday March 24. Police
first arrested the leader of the group, Kwadwo
Bamba, from his office and made more arrests
subsequently while others turned themselves in.
The 13 accused persons have been charged with
conspiracy to assault, assaulting a public
officer, and causing unlawful damage.

Meanwhile, the Police say they have arrested eight
of the thugs that stormed the court to cause the
mayhem. They are investigating the matter.
