15.8m on Ghana's voters' register - EC The Electoral Commission has hinted over 15
million people are eligible to vote come December
7, 2016.
The chairperson of the Electoral Management Body
Mrs. Charlotte Osei has also served notice the
final register of voters will be made available to
all political parties by close of October.
According to her, no polling station would have
over 850 voters in this year's elections, adding
this will help ease pressure on the verification
and vote counting machines.
“The political parties by Friday will get a list
of all the polling stations,” Mrs. Osei stated
when she addressed the second general meeting of
the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs in Kumasi on
Wednesday.
“All of them (political parties) who have
brought their hard drives will have a list of the
final voters’ register”.
She added: “The register has now been finalised;
we have implemented all the decisions and we are
in a good place and, so, they (political parties)
will have the register at the end of this week. We
will probably have an approximately 15,800,000
names thereabout on the register going into the
elections.”
Three political parties are contesting the
presidential race – National Democratic Congress
(NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention
People’s Party (CPP) and an independent
candidate Joseph Osei Yeboah.
