We’ll deal decisively with election trouble makers – Interior Minister Source: h Interior Minister, Prosper Douglas Bani says
Ghana’s Security agencies would deal decisively
with persons who are planning to foment trouble
before, during and after the 2016 elections adding
that “our intelligence has eyes and ears around
the country to secure the peace of Ghana
”. Mr. Bani said “the security service
particularly the police would continue to be
vigilant and ensure that the rogue elements that
are hiding behind political parties so not disturb
our peace. We will in fact we shall pick up the
individuals who commit these acts of violence and
disturbances and address them within the confines
of the law.”
With about six weeks for Ghana to go to the polls,
there have been concerns about possible violence
as the political temperature heats up mainly
amongst the two major political parties – the
National Democratic Congree (NDC) and the New
Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing journalists in Accra, Minister for the
Interior, Prosper Douglas Bani says based on six
successful elections held in the country, the
interior ministry is confident the security
agencies will ensure maximum security before,
during and after this year’s elections.
“There may be areas where peace processes and
conflict resolution processes are ongoing but
there are no armed violence conflicts in this
country as we speak. It gives credence to the work
that the intelligence services and the security
services are doing for us all.”
The sector minister stressed that vigilante
groups have been outlawed and have no space in the
political dispensation. He assured that a security
taskforce will be deployed to develop strategies
in dealing with persons who engage in such acts.
On hotspots identified by the police service, the
minister said adequate security arrangements have
been made to ensure peace prevails in all those
areas.
