We haven’t endorsed Nana Addo – Atwima Kwanwoma chiefs
Chiefs in the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency of the
Ashanti region have denied media reports
suggesting that they have declared support for the
candidature of the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo
ahead of the December polls.

Reports are rife that the chiefs, numbering 58,
pledged allegiance to the three-time flagbearer as
he visited the area to campaign as part of his
Ashanti regional campaign tour.

Leader of of the chiefs Otumfuo Mpaboahene, Nana
Yaw Owusu, is reported to have accused the
Mahama-led administration of neglecting them
because of their perceived loyalty to the NPP.

But speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning
Starr Thursday, Nana Yaw Owusu said the claim of
their collective support for Akufo-Addo is not
true.

“ We didn’t come together to endorse
Akufo-Addo as they are claiming and it is not true
that we said President Mahama has neglected us.
What we said was that because of our perceived
association with the Danqua-Busia-Dombo tradition
people tend to think that we support the NPP. So
we only told Akufo-Addo to help fix our roads if
he becomes President,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops Conferenec has in
a statement urged chiefs to desist from politics.

“We entreat our kings and chiefs to protect the
integrity of their stools and skins by refraining
from meddling in partisan politics to the
displeasure of their subjects as if to say that
the party they associate with or endorse is
representative of their subjects’ choice as
well.

“Politicians and traditional leaders must work
to foster peace and seek the integral development
of Ghanaians rather than to divide them,” the
statement said
