One shot dead at Nungua over piece of land

One man has been shot dead and another injured
following a misunderstanding over a parcel of land
at Coco Beach in Nungua near Accra.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the
Police Hospital mortuary while the injured is on
admission at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The two men were said to be part of a three-man
armed group, which was allegedly engaged by a
building contractor, Mr Ebenezer Ekow Agaim, 46,
to attack a mechanic, Bismark Attoh, 27.

Mr Agaim was said to be at loggerheads with Attoh
over a piece of land lying in between their houses
at Coco Beach in Nungua.

The deceased has been identified only as Razak and
the injured only as Ansah.

The two persons involved in the dispute, Agaim and
Attoh, are currently assisting in police
investigations.

Pump action gun

Briefing Graphic Online in Accra on Tuesday, the
Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer,
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mrs
Effia Tenge, said at about 7:15p.m. on September
26, 2016, Agaim and the three men, armed with
knives, went to the house of his next door
neighbour, Attoh to attack him and claim the
disputed plot of land between their two houses.

Unknown to the assailants, Attoh was armed with a
pump action gun at the time he was attacked.

Police preliminary investigations, she said,
indicated that Attoh started firing the weapon
indiscriminately.

In the melee, Mrs Tenge said one of the bullets
hit Razak, while Ansah sustained gunshot wounds
when they were in Attoh’s house.

The third person and Agaim, however, managed to
escape.

A search in the house led to the retrieval of a
pump action gun, two empty shells and three
knives.

What happened?

The police in their investigations found that
Agaim had led a group of men earlier to dump a
truck of stones on the land which was in
contention.

The development resulted in a clash between Agaim
and Attoh.

Attoh is said to have been beaten mercilessly by
Agaim and his gang, a development which prompted
him to arm himself with the pump action gun.
