NDC MP Goes Independent
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of
Parliament (MP) for Lawra constituency in the
Upper West Region Samson Abu will be seeking to
retain his seat but as an independent candidate
investigations by ultimatefmonline.com have
uncovered.

Samson Abu lost to Bede Ziedeng Former Upper West
Regional Minister in a three-man contest involving
Pascal Dery the District Chief Executive (DCE) for
Lawra during the party’s parliamentary primary
last year.

The race was however between the former minister
and the incumbent MP but the latter lost by 16
votes to the former, an outcome which infuriated
supporters of the vanquished.

A group calling itself ‘Friends of Samson
Abu,’ subsequently issued a week’s ultimatum
to the party’s hierarchy for a rerun of the
primary or they will campaign against Mr. Ziedeng
in the 2016 parliamentary elections.

They alleged that the former Deputy General
Secretary of the governing NDC won the poll by
virtue of his position as Deputy Director of
Elections of the party.

The aggrieved supporters were also urging the
defeated MP to contest as an independent candidate
which is why he has finally emerged.

A visit to the constituency saw posters of the MP
with his portrait at various vantage points with
the motto: “Still Pursuing the Transformation
Agenda through Development”.

Other posters catalogued his achievements as MP
for the area since he assumed office in 2013.

Political pundits have disclosed that the move
could drown the hopes of Bede Ziedeng who is
seeking to enter parliament and give a leeway to
New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Deputy Director of
Communications Anthony Abyayifa Karbo.

Mr. Samson Abu is refraining from commenting on
the matter after fruitless efforts by the
party’s hierarchy to lobby him from pursuing his
independent agenda which they indicate could spell
doom for the party.

Closed sources within the Upper West Regional
secretariat of the party revealed to
ultimatefmonline.com that the NDC is still not
relenting on its efforts to compel him back down.
