Dr Albert Brown Gaisie, GNFS Boss Mass resignation hits Fire Service Several personnel of the Ghana National Fire
Service (GNFS) have tendered in their resignation
letters, Adomonlline.com can confirm.
The officers, numbering about four hundred and
twenty (420) tendered in their resignations in
protest of the bad working conditions in the
service. This came to light on the Fabewoso
Segment of Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso
Nsem’ Wednesday.
The poor conditions of service, officers who
called in to the show indicated are causing most
of their colleagues to consider other options
despite some of them having superior knowledge in
firefighting. Some of these officers left the
service for further studies but they have not been
promoted upon return.
Other poor working conditions, including officers
being forced to purchase uniforms they put on
every Wednesday are making many more of the
officers to consider resigning.
According to one of the officers, this uniform is
a blue-black one which they have had to purchase
from a market woman at Makola in Accra. Officers
who dare complain about the poor working
conditions are also transferred as punishment.
“Transfer has become a form of punishment in
the service now, if you complain, they will
transfer you immediately without giving you the
transfer grants…,” one of the officers said.
The fire officers, they said also lack boots and
have had to spend GHC250.00 of their meager
salaries to purchase boots from officers when they
return from peacekeeping missions.
An amount of GH?7.00, the officers said is also
deducted from their salary into a fund called
Fireman Insurance Policy. “We even have to
borrow money to pay for our rent because we are
never given rent allowances…,” they added.
These and further complains highlighted in the
video below has caused many of the officers to
consider organizing a massive demonstration
against their superiors. Acting Public Relations
Officer (PRO) of the GNFS, DO2 Osafo Mfum claimed
the facts presented on the show were entirely not
correct.
However, when offered the opportunity, he failed
to disprove the claims by the officers. Watch
Captain Smart exposing the bad working conditions
in the GNFS.
