NDC MPs will resist probe into Mahama's ford 'gift' Deputy Majority Leader, Alfred Agbesi has shot
down request by the New Patriotic Party for a
parliamentary probe into circumstances under which
John Dramani Mahama received a four-wheel vehicle
as a gift from a Burkinabe contractor.
According to him, they will resist any attempt by
the NPP to raise the issue on the floor of
Parliament.
“I will say without any reservation at all that
if that issue should be raised in Parliament, we
on our side we shall resist with all the forces at
our disposal,” he stated.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had
called for a parliamentary probe into all
contracts awarded to the Burkinabe contractor,
Djibril Kanazoe who gave the President a $100,000
Ford Expedition car gift.
Others parties including the Progressive Peoples
Party and the Convention Peoples Party have after
the exposé petitioned the Commission on Human
Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to
investigate the matter.
But speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Agbesi who
is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for
Ashaiman is argued that such calls are unnecessary
and a waste of time since the constitution
stipulates how to go about such issues.
“It is a waste of time, it is unnecessary and
uncalled for and we can’t sit down for such
things to be done at our political development.
The constitution for which we operate have made an
elaborate provisions on how to take such actions
against the President.”
“It is not a matter of them calling for a
by-partisan committee to investigate this matter.
The provision is there and they know what to do,
they shouldn’t be playing to the gallery. We are
not going to allow them to be playing to the
gallery all the time. I think we have to tell them
in the face,” he added. Source - citifmonline.com
