We will Meet Supreme Court Deadline-EC Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed that it
will meet the deadline to submit the list of
persons who registered with National Health
Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards to the apex court of
the country, the Supreme Court.
The EC has up to June 29 to present the list to
the court following a directive it issued during
its last sitting in a case involving it and a
former youth organiser of the People’s National
Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and one Evans
Nimako.
Speaking to Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate
Breakfast Show, Director of Communications at the
EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu revealed that the EC is
working seriously to meet the deadline.
“We are currently compiling the list of persons
who registered National Health Insurance Scheme
(NHIS) cards. “The Electoral Commission respects
the ruling of the Supreme Court very much. The
Supreme Court gave us two clear orders…this is
exactly what we are going to do come 29th June”,
he said.
He downplayed claims that the EC has no record of
the NHIS registrants indicating that it could be
the imagination of others and not the commission.
Even though he refused to comment if the
compilation is fraught with challenges, Mr.
Dzakpasu said what was only required is submitting
the requirements to the Supreme Court before or on
the set date.
