Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader

Only NDC can sustain full blown campaign – Minority Leader
“Apart from the ruling party-NDC, I’m not too
sure any other political party has what it takes
to sustain itself for a full blown electioneering
campaign,” that is the contention of the
Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah
Bonsu.

His comments follows the widespread rumours that
the biggest opposition New Patriotic Party does
not have the financial muscle to power its
campaign for the 2016 elections.

But Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu reacting to such
comments said the NPP is not doing bad albeit the
fact that “circumstances are not the best”

He told Bola Ray on Starr Chat that having lost
two elections in a row it was quiet obvious that
the party may face extreme challenges with
funding.

“…Donor fatigue will set in,” he noted, but
added that the NPP will have to portray a sense of
collectiveness and unity to forge ahead.

He’s however dismissed speculations that
Blackstars forward, Asamoah Gyan is sponsoring the
party ahead of the crucial elections slated for
November 7, 2016.

“I can tell you on authority from where I sit
that I’ve never known Asamoah Gyan contribute
any meaningful way to the affairs of our party.
I’ll not pretend to know everything because if
you are a member of parliament and Asamoah Gyan
thinks that whether you are an NPP or NDC and
you’re friend to Asamoah Gyan and now everybody
knows that he’s now well resourced and he saids
can I assist you with maybe USD 5000, its a
contribution to a major political party-I’ll not
know that. And will anybody then say that he’s
financing NPP? Who knows what he’s giving to his
other friends in NDC? So if you’re talking about
the centre, I don’t know of any such
contribution coming from him from 2008, 2012 when
I’ve been keenly involved,” he said.
