NRSC Cautions Road Users ahead of Heavy Rains The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has
cautioned road users in the country especially
drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in good
condition and exercise alertness as they drive on
all roads with the onset of the rains.
This warning comes on the heels of announcement by
Ghana Meteorological Agency predicting more rains
and floods in the coming weeks.
According to the commission, the rainy season is
often characterized by hazy weather conditions
affecting visibility, bad road networks and
overflowing gutters and drainages which render
some roads unmotorable due to debris and
flooding.
In a statement issued to the media, the commission
indicated that such a situation affects driving
and may increase the risk for road traffic
crashes.
To this end, it advised vehicles must have good
headlights, reflectors, tyres and wipers. Drivers
on the other hand must exercise a lot of care and
proper judgment.
“ Drivers should avoid flooded roads where
possible or adapt driving to below posted speed
limits in order to minimize the risk associated
with driving in this condition”, the statement
added.
“We expect Passengers to assume frontline road
safety roles by speaking up against any form of
driver recklessness that can endanger their lives.
We trust that we will all observe this caution so
that we can all arrive at our destinations
alive”, it emphasized.
