Afoko sabotaging Akufo-Addo’s campaign launch – NPP NEC member
The uneasiness in the opposition New Patriotic
Party (NPP) appears to be getting out of hands as
there is rising suspicion within the camp of the
flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo that the national
chairman Paul Afoko is trying to sabotage the
party’s campaign launch for the 2016 elections,
StarrFMonline.com has learnt.

A member of the national executive body of the
party told StarrFMonline.com on condition of
anonymity that they are convinced that Mr Afoko is
deliberately putting impediments in the way of the
flagbearer to announce his campaign team.

According to the senior member, even though Mr.
Afoko is aware that he is supposed to call for a
national executive meeting for Akufo-Addo to name
members of his campaign team, he has turned a
blind eye to it.

“Akufo-Addo is ready to announce his campaign
team but Afoko is refusing to call for the NEC
meeting so the announcement will be made. And
it’s deliberate. It’s been five months since
he called for a NEC meeting. Since March no
meeting has been called,” the executive member
of the Danquah-Busia-Dumbia tradition fumed.

He added: “ It is not our wish that our Party
should always be in the news, however, isn’t it
sad that because of the National Chairman's
unilateral decision and flouting of the
constitution, the Campaign is yet to take off?

“Let us ask if this is not a clear case of Paul
Afoko sabotaging the commencement of the Campaign
of Nana Addo, and the Party. The National Chairman
acts in ways like this and yet when other
executives and leaders of the Party decide to
right such wrongs, they are rather accused as
fomenting division and chaos. How long should the
campaign wait, just because our Chairman has
decided to prevent it from kicking off".

Several efforts by StarrFMonline.com to get a
reaction from Mr Afoko's camp proved futile as
several calls and a text message to his personal
aide were not responded to.

But Mr. Afoko in a recent statement rubbished
claims that he is working against the flagbearer's
interest.

Meanwhile, StarrFMonline.com can confirm that Mr
Afoko has been listed as part of the campaign
team.

The biggest opposition party has been hit with a
protracted internal wrangling. Many political
watchers have said the development can cause the
party the 2016 elections if measures are not
adopted to resolve it.
