'My son is mentally ill' – Gunman’s mother The mother of the 36-year-old man who has been
sentenced for possessing a fully loaded gun at
President John Mahama’s church has said her son
is mentally challenged and must not be taken
seriously.
An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Francis
Obiri slapped Charles Antwi with a 10-year jail
term within 48 hours after his arrest.
The convict confessed to a plot to assassinate the
President and his family at the Ringway Gospel
Centre branch of the Assemblies of God Church in
Accra this past Sunday. He said his intention is
to save Ghanaians from the erratic power supply
and the hardship.
Reacting to the ruling, his mother, Afia Agyapomaa
told Accra-based Asempa FM her son has no
consciousness over his actions.
“He is not well, he has mental challenges. I
plead with Ghanaians to appeal for a reduction of
his sentence.
“He has been talking of killing the President
for the last two years but everyone who knows him
will tell you that he is not well. His father died
two years ago. I plead with people to intervene
for him,” Agyapomaa bemoaned.
