NHIS Has Collapsed; Tell Ghanaians The Truth Outspoken Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese,
Rt. Rev. Stephen Bosomtwe-Ayensu has taken a swipe
of the managers of the National Health Insurance
Scheme (NHIS) for lying to Ghanaians about the
viability of the scheme.
In his view, the NHIS has collapsed but the
managers and government lack the political will to
be candid to the citizenry.
Rev. Bosomtwe-Ayensu’s comment comes on the back
of warnings by stakeholders in the health
insurance scheme which has been plagued with
bankruptcy.
They predicted that NHIS risks collapse by January
2015 if additional funding is not sourced by
government. The deputy Health Minister, Victor
Bampoe at a dialogue of health practitioners on
how to sustain the scheme promised government will
go for a bailout to savage the NHIS.
But in an interview with Adom News, the Obuasi
Bishop said government is doing a great disservice
to Ghanaians.
He could not fathom why people will pay their levy
to access healthcare and government will not
fulfill its part of the bargain.
The outspoken man of God blamed the worsening
socio-economic condition in the country on lack of
healthcare.
“People who are sick cannot think right for the
nation and people who are not strong cannot work
to come out with something good for the nation to
move on” he stressed.

NHIS who are being paid by tax-payers money to put
their acts together to revive the scheme. Source - Adomfm
