Aseidu Nketia hails KNUST NPP lecturers; asks pastors to follow suit The General Secretary of the governing National
Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Aseidu Nketia is
encouraging pastors to follow the example of
lecturers of the Kwame Nkrumah University of
Science and Technology (KNUST) who have openly
declared their political allegiance to the
opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He believes more of such declarations by other
professional bodies will cure “hypocrisy” in
Ghanaian politics.
Speaking to Accra-based Okay FM, Aseidu Nketia
explained that “those who hide behind the clergy
and other professional bodies to dabble in
politics should come out like the way these KNUST
Lecturers have exposed themselves.”
According to Aseidu Nketia, it is easier to deal
with clergymen whose political leaning is known.
“Sometimes the media rely on the clergy for
non-partisan opinions but they end up speaking as
if they are either NDC or NPP Propaganda
secretaries when they speak as God’s servants,
it becomes difficult to question them and they get
away with it,” he observed.
He was commenting on the decision of some KNUST
lecturers who on Monday declared support for the
opposition NPP.
They have described themselves as KNUST NPP
Frontliners.
The decision has sparked debate about political
neutrality among professionals. But the NDC
strategist believes there is nothing wrong with
the move.
“There are those who confuse the public with
lies that they are neutrals on the ground and yet
have political leanings. If everybody declares
their political lineage, the hypocrisy will end
and people will see where they belong,” he
stated.
