Odike'’s new party gets provisional certificate A new political party has emerged in Ghana with
the sole aim of wrestling power in 2016.
The new party, United Progressive Party or UPP,
was on Tuesday certified provisionally by the
Electoral Commission to start preparations towards
the 2016 general elections.
Founder of the party, Akwasi Addai popularly known
as Odike is however not new to mainstream politics
in the country.
In the 2012 election he secured the least votes
totaling 8, 877 representing 0.08 percent when he
led the United Front Party in the presidential
election.
The Kumasi based businessman told Joy News’
Elton Brobbey that resolving the energy crisis
permanently remains his primary goal when elected
in 2016.
He intends bringing in more independent power
producers and possibly sell out the current power
distributor Electricity Company of Ghana.
He said he would roll out programmes to change the
economy of the nation using the “natural mineral
resources and arable land for agriculture”.
