This Useless Campaign Must Stop
“We also wish to state categorically that Kumasi
and Ashanti Region as a whole need police
commanders who totally believe in the values and
ideals of NDC and Better Ghana Agenda as election
2016 is approaching.”

This is a quotation from a petition allegedly
authored by a group styling itself as the
“National Democratic Congress (NDC) Security
Caucus of Kumasi which is engaged in a campaign
for the transfer of the Ashanti Regional Police
Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye.

The shadowy group also wrote "We in the NDC must
be careful and always exercise diligence on the
posting and transfer of police commanders who are
in bed politically with and also sympathetic to
the cause of NPP in Kumasi and Ashanti Region.”

It must be clear that those who engage in this
campaign of lies slander and vilification against
the Ashanti Regional Police Commander do the
National Democratic Congress (NDC) no good.

First, they portray the party as an intolerant and
arrogant in situation whose only concern is to win
political power and to punish all those who
disagree with it.

The language of petition also demonstrates clearly
a determination to subvert the independence and
neutrality of the public institution.

It is interesting that both the New Patriotic
Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress
(NDC) see the Ashanti Regional Command of the
Police Service as being biased against them.

That perhaps, shows the extent to which the
command has maintained its neutrality.

Kofi Boakye and his men and women must be doing
something good to annoy activists of the two
leading parties in Ghana.

Only a couple of weeks ago, some elements of the
NPP were busily chasing DCOP Kofi Boakye for
allegedly expressing anti-NPP sentiments in an
interview on TV3’s “Hot Issues”.

How can one-person be working for or sympathetic
to both the NDC and the NPP at the same time?

May be these party hawks believe that it is
possible to ride two horses in opposite direction
at the same time.

The record of current Police Command in Ashanti is
very impressive and that is what should matter the
most.

The physical structures of the police in Ashanti
have improved significantly with the massive
renovation of the Regional headquarters and the
building of an ultra-modern conference facility.

It is also generally acknowledged that the crime
rate has been substantially reduced in Ashanti.

Police public relations is also said to have
significantly improved.

DCOP Kofi Boakye is now affectionately called
“Commander One” by residents of Ashanti.

This useless campaign must stop.
