‘Kwaterekwa’ demo hits KMA boss over reconstruction of Kejetia market Traders at the Kejetia bus terminal have staged a
demonstration against the mayor of the Kumasi
Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu. The
traders are demanding that the reconstruction of
the Central Market at Kejetia must not include the
bus terminal hence their protest. The traders at
the terminal have been asked to relocate to the
Adehyeman market for phase one of the
reconstruction to begin.
The protest dubbed “Kwaterekwa” demonstration
is to draw government’s attention to their
plight. They held placards with inscriptions
“Kͻnkͻnsa project paa nie,” “Some
MPs’ in Kumasi should wise up,” “Kojo Bonsu
must also go” among others.
The public relations officer (PRO) in an interview
with Citi News questioned the rationale behind the
project saying, “I don’t know why Kojo Bonsu
is insisting that they will construct 10,000 shops
in a bus terminal. Does he want to condemn the
terminal?”
The protestors who began the exercise at Kejetia,
went through some principals streets in Kumasi
including Prampaso, Adum, the Police headquarters
and will finally end at the KMA office to present
their petition to the mayor.
