Angry wood workers besiege ECG office Scores of angry workers at the Sokoban Wood
Village in Kumasi stormed the Danyame District
Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana,
demanding the company immediately fix their
transformers.
The irate workers, who were clad in red bands,
besieged the ECG office around 2pm Thursday and
chanted war songs, threatening to “deal” with
the power distributor’s officials.
According to the Sokoban carpenters, they have
been hacked to a single transformer when another
developed a fault.
This, they say, has put huge pressure on the
operating one which frequently experiences power
surges.
The leader of the group, Abeiku Koomson told
Ultimate FM that the problem had existed for about
a year, but several complaints to ECG have fallen
on deaf ears. He added that the group would not
leave until the matter is resolved.
“Anytime we call the office to report a
situation, it takes them a whole day before they
arrive to fix the issue; we are tired of that
behaviour. We are already challenged with the
worsening power crisis which all of us have come
to accept but we need to take care of our
families,” Koomson stated.
When Ultimate FM contacted the District Manager
for the ECG Danyame District, Daniel Akuffo, he
admitted that the workers had severally grumbled
over the matter which “they have tried
fixing”.
He, however, hinted that his outfit will procure a
new transformer for the area to help solve the
situation. Source - Starrfmonline
