Common sense should prevail in Solomon Nkansah's political discourse - Obiri Boahen
Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic
Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has expressed
dissatisfaction in the Communication Director of
the ruling NDC, Solomon Nkansah over his assertion
that the GPRTU is in bed with NPP for its refusal
to reduce transport fares despite the 10 percent
reduction in fuel price.

According to the Private Lawyer, it is surprising
that the Communication Director of the ruling NDC
has reduced his status to the level of a foot
soldier who is believed to be unknowledgeable in
what goes into transport business and governance.

Speaking Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show,
Nana Obiri Boahen wondered when one's political
affiliation was needed before someone could
register to be member of the Limited Liability
Company [GPRTU] as it is being spewed by NDC
Communication officer.

The Deputy NPP General Secretary stated that if
some of the members of GPRTU are in bed with the
opposition NPP then there are some also who are
for the ruling NDC since it is a known fact that
majority of petrol tank owners are NDC members.

To him, if NPP is quiet over the refusal of GPRTU
to reduce transport fares, nothing should stop the
NDC, CJA and Young Democrats from leading a
crusade against the GPRTU; insisting that Solomon
Nkansah should coordinate a demonstration against
GPRTU over its refusal to reduce fares on
transportation drastically.

“If GPRTU has refused to reduce fares on
transport and NPP also has not demonstrated, what
stops NDC from going on a demonstration? Does CJA
not exist anymore and can’t the pressure group
demonstrate? We have Young Democrat; what prevents
Solomon Nkansah from coordinating a demonstration
against GPRTU?”, he quizzed.

“Common sense should tell him that the 10
percent reduction in fuel price is not enough to
cause major decrease in transport fares in the
country. Vehicles in the transport business
don’t use petrol alone but other things are
involve to make the business work; the drivers
have to buy engine oil, cost of spare parts are
high, toll booth levy has been increased, cost of
maintenance is high due to the erratic power
supply because mechanic shops use generators to
render services and sales of drivers have gone
high”, he explained.

To him, the NDC Communication Director is not
abreast with events as many places in the Brong
Ahafo region have recorded reduction in the
transport fares; adding that he [Solomon Nkansah]
needs to be mature in his submission and stop the
propaganda because Ghana needs to progress after
almost 60 years of independence.
