I gave ‘kpa kpa kpa’ man rice, oil; can't pay him Gh¢50k - Guru
Ghanaian Hiplife musician Guru says he has given
an undisclosed amount of money as copyright
royalty to Mohammed Ayeetey Okwabei, the man
behind the viral “Kpa Kpa Kpa” phrase.

Okwaibei is demanding GH¢50,000 from the artiste
and telecommunication company Glo in the form of
royalties for using the term for commercial
purposes.

Speaking on Accra-based Neat FM on Wednesday
morning, the father of five said he was upset with
the musician for cashing in on the phrase he
originated, while leaving him to wallow in poverty
with his family.

Watch him express his frustrations as he speaks on
to radio station in this video published on
YouTube by Mustapha Ayinde Inusah

“The word Kpa Kpa Kpa is very popular but I am
suffering. My five kids have been sacked from
school for not paying their school fees and they
are home now. I am not working and my wife is also
not working but look at the way people are using
Kpa Kpa Kpa everywhere in their music and radio
jingles all over the place and nobody will even
call me to give me one Ghana cedi”.

But speaking on the Starr Entertainment segment of
the Starr Drive with Bola Ray on Starr 103.5FM,
Guru said he visited Mohammed during Christmas
last year to give him some foodstuffs.

“O“Oh, oh he is sorted oooo. I’m not part of
the people maybe he might be charging but even in
I gave him some couple of staff. I gave him some
cool money I got some foodstuff for him take care
of the family.”.

When asked by Bola Ray exactly how much, he gave
Mohammed Guru declined to reveal the amount but
said “I don't remember but it was December ooo
abi you know...but eih! the foodstuff alone! Rice,
oil and other things. He knows, he knows…” he
said.
