Power Ministry is good news for Ghanaians – Minister for Energy Minister for Energy and Petroleum has debunked the
assertion that the newly-created Ministry of Power
is a job for the boys.
Government over the weekend created a Ministry for
Power, which is going to be headed by Dr Kwabena
Donkor, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select
Committee on Energy.
Even though the ministry is yet to be approved by
Parliament, some political pundits have described
it as needless and a ‘job for the boys.’
But speaking in an interview on PEACE FM Morning
Show ‘Kokrokoo’, Hon Kofi Buah said the new
Ministry is not ‘a job for the boys’; neither
is it a ‘duplication’ of the Energy Ministry.
According to him, the new ministry forms part of
the restructuring of the power sector to ensure
more stability and security in the provision of
electricity.
“They (new Ministry) will be coordinating rural
electrification, access to electricity, dealing
with infrastructure for network expansion,
distribution; making sure that all the issues of
ECG are addressed. It is not a duplication of
roles… There is going to be a real coordination
between the two ministries because there are lots
of things that need to be coordinated. This shows
that government takes the matter of power
generation so seriously, that we are tackling it
from all fronts. It is good news for the people of
Ghana” he remarked.
Kofi Buah however could not answer if government
will be employing new staff to work in the new
ministry. Source - Peacefmonline
