Director of Passports questioned over ‘Cocaine Woman’s’ passport The Director of Passports, Alexander Ntrakwa, has
been questioned by the Bureau of National
Investigations (BNI) over the Ghanaian woman who
was arrested in the UK for carrying cocaine.
This was revealed to Citi News by the Minister of
Communications Dr. Edward Omane Boamah on Friday.
Ms Nayele Ametefe was arrested at the Heathrow
airport in the UK for carrying about 12kg of
cocaine in her hand luggage.
Earlier reports said the lady carried a diplomatic
passport but Government has vehemently denied that
claim.
The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in a press
release signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary,
Richard Nii Lante Blankson, said, “it is worthy
to note that Ms. Nayele Ametefe travelled on an
Austrian passport number P4187659 and not on
Ghanaian Diplomatic passport as being speculated.
She also had in her possession an ordinary
Ghanaian passport number G0364497 issued on 3rd
August, 2012.”
NACOB said that the Board helped security agencies
in the UK to arrest Ms. Ametefe but the
Communications Minister has emphatically said he
doubts NACOB had any hand in the arrest of the
woman.
The Minister added that “If at any point in
time, there is any shred of evidence and we can be
helped that she had a diplomatic passport, why
not… at this stage there nothing that shows that
she had a diplomatic passport.”
Dr. Omane Boamah also revealed that they had
tracked the traveler history of the lady and said:
“You have just looked at two aspects of the
sources. There is a third aspect which I mentioned
which is what corroborates what the Director of
Passport said… I made mention of the two
passports that the lady has been travelling on. A
traveler history report and that corroborate what
the Director of Passport indicated.”
An Austrian newspaper has revealed that Nayele
Ametefeh traveled with a number of passports
including a Ghanaian, Austrian, and European Union
passports. Source - Citifmonline
