Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah Angry ECG workers demand reinstatement of sacked boss Angry workers of the Avenor office of the
Electricity Company of Ghana are protesting the
removal of the Managing Director of the company.
The protest comes just hours after Rev. Ing.
William Hutton-Mensah was relieved of his
position.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Prosper
Bani said Robert Dwamena will be acting in that
capacity.
Hutton-Mensah, who is on leave, is to report to
the Energy Ministry for reassignment.
The decision to sack the out-going MD has angered
some workers of the ECG.
The workers, particularly those in the Avenor
office are hoisting red flags with banners
demanding the reinstatement of Hutton-Mensah.
The dismissal of the MD, and the protests for his
reinstatement, are new twists to what has become a
volatile sector.
In the wake of the protracted load shedding regime
the country has suffered in recent times, ECG
officials have been easy targets to angry,
sometimes, violent protestations by residents in
Accra and Kumasi.
Over the weekend residents of Tabora and Odorkor
all in Accra took to the streets, blocked roads
and threatened to attack officials of the ECG.
It took the intervention of the police and the
military to restore calm in the area.
On Friday, it was the turn of the Kumasi residents
to take to the streets.
It is not clear yet if the dismissal of
Hutton-Mensah has anything to do with the
protracted load shedding exercise across the
country.
