3 die in Agbogbloshie clashes over GH₵70, copper wire At least three people have died after clashes
between rival groups at the Kokomba market,
Agbogbloshie in Accra, yesterday over GH₵70
and copper wire.
The two feuding factions are believed to be
Dagomabs and Nanumbas and were supposedly fighting
over a motor cycle.
Several people in the area were also injured while
a number of properties were vandalised and
destroyed in the process.
An eye witnesses, Alex who spoke to Joy News’
Beatrice Adu, said he heard people running and
making noise in the area and when he came out he
saw people pelting stones at each other.
He said the fight came about after the Dagomba’s
requested for a motorbike; which had been seized
from them by the Nanumba’s as collateral for a
disputed amount of GH₵70 and copper wire, to
be released into their custody. A refusal to
return said motorbike sparked a fight between the
two groups.
Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra
Police Service, ASP Afia Tenge said four people
have been arrested in connection with the clashes
and are assisting in investigations.
She said the police have been able to restore calm
to the community and made available a patrol team
to ensure law and order among residents.
