Kenu questions Graphic: “Ive not killed nor violated the company's laws...So why the sack?”
Immediate past Ashanti Regional Editor of
state-owned Daily Graphic, Daniel Kenu believes
his sudden dismissal was influenced by some heads
in the State owned media house.

According to him although he erred by unilaterally
withdrawing his case from the court which was of
national interest, he is devastated by how he has
been treated by his superiors.

He insisted that his decision to discontinue with
the case was personal and should be respected.

“I have not violated any law. Even though the
case was of national interest, it came to a point
I couldn’t contain the pressure anymore. No one
knows what I went through before withdrawing the
case from court, only God knows.

“..I should have informed them [Daily Graphic]
about my decision but that was unfortunate I
couldn’t. After, I explained to them why I did
that and all that happened...I just couldn’t
continue with the case. I have pleaded with them
to forgive me and I think that should have ended
it,” he stated.

Recall of Kenu-Bafour Gyan saga

Daniel Kenu went to court with the full backing of
Graphic when he was beaten by a group of men,
allegedly led by Baffour Gyan, elder brother of
Black Stars’ captain, Asamoah Gyan after a
question he had earlier asked about the
whereabouts of popular Hip Life musician, Castro.

Despite the massive support from Ghanaians for
Kenu to pursue and make sure Baffour Gyan spend
some time in prison, the former editor withdrew
the case citing health and family issues, although
his Managing Director, Ken Ashigbey had vowed to
follow the case to its logical conclusion.

However, it is alleged that Daniel Kenu has been
bribed by his offender’s young brother who is
one of the richest players on the continent.

Graphic fires Kenu

Months after the brouhaha, Graphic on Wednesday
November 19, discharged Daniel Kenu accusing him
of “gross misconduct and disloyalty under
section 22(a) of collective bargaining
agreement” between him and the company.

“Management has noted, after considering the
reports of the investigation committee, including
its findings and recommendations, that you acted
disloyally by unilaterally withdrawing the case
from the court, more especially when the incident
occurred in the course of your official duty and
Management had written to you and assured you of
its support and had specifically instructed you to
consult it on any move you wanted to take
regarding the case” the dismissal letter stated.

However, speaking to Peace FM news, the embattled
editor described his dismissal as uncalled for.

“I have not killed a human being, neither have I
stolen or violated the company's laws. Why should
they [Daily Graphic] sack me? Do they want to kill
me? They just want to destroy my life for no
apparent reason. I just don’t understand them.
Why do they want to punish me for the wrong of
somebody?” he lamented.

He however revealed that, he was advised by a
psychologist to withdraw the case from court in
order to have a sound mind.

“I copied all the management members the report
from my psychologist and they are aware of
that,” he added
