NDC group kicks against ‘Tweaa’ DCE’s re-nomination A group belonging to the governing National
Democratic Congress has kicked against President
John Mahama’s re-nomination of Gabriel Barima as
District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South.
Barima shot into instant fame, a few months ago,
when he stormed out of a public event amidst
hurling of invectives at a public health worker,
who had pshawed at him.
He was captured on video furiously demanding:
“Who said tweaa? Are you my co-equal?”
‘Tweaa’ is a local form of pshawing to express
disdain. Barima’s heckler let out the word –
to the hearing of the DCE – as he addressed a
gathering of health workers.
The presidency pardoned him for his misconduct,
but Mahama later gave him the sack after Barima,
allegedly boasted in a subsequent interview about
the incident.
The President eventually re-nominated him after
months of intervention from traditional leaders
and party executives including NDC’s General
Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Barima will need at least two-thirds majority of
votes of the Assembly for him to be passed and
re-instated.
However, the group says the infamous DCE has
brought “shame and disgrace” to the people of
the District and must, therefore, not be
re-instated. Source - Starrfmonline
