AFAG hits the streets again in 'Aagbewɔ Demo' Pressure Group Alliance for Accountable Governance
(AFAG) will hit the streets in Accra next week in
a demonstration they have christened "aagbewo"
meaning they are killing us.
At a news conference in Accra, leader of the
group, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie said the
demonstration is premised on the widespread
corruption and unbearable hardships that have been
inflicted on Ghanaians.
The demonstration is slated for Thursday, November
6, 2014.
According to him, the cost of the ongoing
construction work at Circle in Accra has been
inflated by several millions of euros.
Dr Afriyie minced no words in describing president
John Mahama as an "opportunistic" leader whose
"indecision" is gravely affecting Ghanaians.
"It is the belief of this group that we have an
opportunistic government in office. We are
fighting against incompetence. We are fighting
against the lack of transparency and indecision.
"...You and myself have been deprived of the
resources that belong to the common goal," he
stated.
The National Petroleum Authority only last week
announced a two per cent reduction in petroleum
products but AFAG is unimpressed.
Dr Afriyie described the reduction as an insult to
Ghanaians.
This is not the first time AFAG has gone on
demonstration. Since 2009, the group has embarked
on a series of demonstrations in protest over
hardships in the country. Source - MyjoyOnline
