Gov't freezes salaries of public sector workers The Controller and Accountant General’s
Department has frozen salaries of some public
sector workers in six regions.
Last month, the department froze salaries of over
20,000 public sector workers in the Greater Accra,
Volta, Central and Western regions.
It has now extended the exercise to cover public
sector workers without bank accounts in the
Eastern, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper
East and Upper West regions.
Public Relations Officer for the Department,
Gilbert Nyaledzigbor told Starr News that the
exercise will eliminate ghost names from the
government payroll.
“For us to take ghost names or those who are not
supposed to receive salaries from the payroll
depends on what the heads of department [will
do].
“We are running a system whereby anything you
put in the system we will be able to trace
it...the next is for us to find out who put the
names on the payroll system”, Nyaledzigbor said. Source - Starrfmonline
