Korle Bu apologizes to indicted persons in audit report The Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
has apologized to the persons indicted in a report
by the Audit Service , asking some former board
members to refund close to 1 million cedis to the
hospital.
The interim report on the 2014 expenditure
accounts of the hospital published by the Daily
Graphic said some individuals were ordered to
refund over GHC 900,000 which was
misappropriated.
But the management of the hospital insists that
the audit report is not final.
The management in a statement said ” the
management of the hospital is currently in the
process of addressing the observations submitted
by the Central Government Audit Department of the
Audit Service and has not reached a stage where
individuals mentioned are to be contacted.”
The statement also apologized for the
embarrassment caused to the named individuals by
the report.
Meanwhile the former acting Chief Administrator,
Rev Albert Botchway, one of the persons indicted
in the interim has denied the charges.
Rev Botchway has denied knowledge of the audit
report ordering him and others to refund monies
spent illegally during his tenure.
Speaking to Citi News the former Korle Bu CEO said
he believes his detractors have a hand in the
claims.
“… I haven’t written an audit report…
Nobody has called me for an audit so I don’t
know any report. I don’t even know there is an
audit going on. My name is Rev Botway, God is
still on his throne. Man may destroy you, but God
will not destroy you, so whoever wants to destroy
me I leave that person to God. Because as far as I
am concerned, I don’t know that there is any
audit going on”.
Some staff of the hospital earlier accused the
Board and Management of the hospital of spending
more than GhȻ1million on luxury vehicles.
President of the Korle Bu Senior Staff
Association, Charles Ofei-Palm told Citi News they
feel vindicated by the Korle Bu Audit report.
“These are some of the things we have been
saying so we are not surprised by the report but
then it is a good thing that Ghanaians are finally
beginning to know the truth.
“We have saved Korle Bu of wrongdoing and
mismanagement. What is wrong is wrong and what is
bad is bad and lets stick to that… The
principles of management must be followed by
anybody who takes over the issue of governance in
the hospital. Nobody is above the law”
