There was no arrangement over transfer of cash - uniBank Accra, Aug. 28, GNA – uniBank Ghana Limited,
official bank of the Black Stars, has said, there
was no arrangement between their outfit and the
Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the transfer
of cash into the accounts of players of the Black
Stars, prior to the World Cup.
Owusu Ansah Awrey, Executive Director of the Bank,
said there was also no understanding with the
players on the use of master cards as well as the
transfer of their appearance fee into their
accounts.
Appearing before the Presidential Commission of
Inquiry, investigating the participation of the
Black Stars in Brasil, Awrey, said the use of
Master Cards was not part of the contract they
signed with the GFA.
Awrey said, the use of master cards was to offer
the players and officials convenience hence the
decision to provide 44 master cards to players,
management and technical officials of the team,
before the world cup.
He added that, all those provided with cards had
accounts with the bank and stated that, the master
cards provided the team, could access $4,000 each
day.
He however noted that, they did not receive any
official complaint from the GFA or the players
over cases of malfunctioning cards.
When asked about the role of uniBank in the
production of accreditation tags for supporters,
Awrey said, uniBank, paid 10,000ghc to have their
logo embossed on the accreditation tags for
supporters.
According to Awrey, the payment was made through a
private organisation - Primeval Ghana Limited and
they have been given due receipts for the
transaction.
Awrey, however expressed disappointment over the
performance of the Black Stars at the competition,
adding that it was the best opportunity for the
Stars to perform well at the World Cup. Source - GNA
