Cable-stealing policeman arrested A police officer stationed at Gomoa Nyanyano in
the Central Region has been arrested for allegedly
stealing electric cables.
The suspect, Inspector Emmanuel Ametepey and an
accomplice, now on the run, were said to have
stolen nine bundles of the electric cables being
used for a rural electrification project at
Nankese, a village near Agona Odoben in the
Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District.
According to the Agona Swedru Police, the
inspector and his accomplice, identified only as
Abu, contracted the driver of a truck with
registration number GC 296-10, to cart the stolen
items from the village to Kasoa last Thursday
evening.
Inspector Ametepey, who claimed ownership of the
items, reportedly sat in the front cabin of the
truck, apparently to enable them cross all police
checkpoints on the main road to their
destination.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Agona Swedru
yesterday, the Swedru Divisional Police Commander,
Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Ahmed Issah
Yakubu, said around 7 p.m. the patrol team on the
Swedru-Oda highway intercepted the truck loaded
with the stolen items on the Breman Asikuma-Swedru
road.
He said Inspector Ametepey, who was in a police
uniform claimed ownership of the items, while his
accomplice followed the truck in a Toyota Avensis
Salon car, with registration number GT 1150 Y.
He said the patrol team questioned the Inspector
who claimed ownership of the items and in the
process asked the driver to speed off.
The patrol team, according to Mr Yakubu, then
became suspicious and alerted the leader of the
patrol team, who quickly informed the patrol teams
at the Kwanyako, Afransi and Winneba barriers.
He said the two vehicles were impounded at the
Kwanyako barrier, but Abu absconded, while
Inspector Ametepey was apprehended.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting the
