Nana points at Bawumia for Veep
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday gave the
strongest hint yet about who his running mate
would be if he was chosen as the presidential
candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),
describing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his right hand
man.

Nana Addo reaffirmed his confidence in the man who
partnered him during the last polls when he (Nana
Addo) hosted a cross-section of Muslims led by the
National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu,
at his Nima residence for a fast-breaking
session.

He requested for prayers from the Islamic cleric
for him and “my right hand man Dr. Bawumia who
is a Muslim.”

It was a colourful scene to behold as Muslim
chiefs from Accra assembled around a table to
break their Ramadan fast followed by the saying of
the last two prayers of the day. Nana’s
residence was turned into a mosque when his Muslim
guests undertook congregational prayers.

Fruits were in abundance, including dates which
the faithful broke their fasts with.

That was not all. Dinner was served as Nana’s
guests ate and engaged one another in hearty
parleys.

The session, which also had seven MPs attending,
was at the request of Nana Akufo-Addo who said the
presence of the Chief Imam at his home and the
subsequent prayers had turned his abode into a
holy place.

Akufo-Addo extolled the virtues of Sheikh Dr.
Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, praising him for his
contributions towards national development and
added that “he is father to all Ghanaians.”

He prayed to God to grant the cleric long life so
he could continue to support the nation with his
wisdom and prayers.

Nana requested prayers from his guests for Ghana
which he noted was passing through difficult
times, explaining that “it is because of the
challenges the nation is facing that others and I
are putting up ourselves for national
leadership.”

Nana prayed for “unity of our nation, unity of
tribes, unity of sexes and unity of religions, for
it is in that unity that we find strength.”

He implored, “When you pray, think of me and
pray for me. Ask Allah to give me wisdom,
strength, long life and a good heart to achieve
the vision I have for this nation.”

Alhaji Baba Issa, who spoke for the National Chief
Imam, expressed gratitude to Nana for letting them
into his house to break their fast.

He prayed Allah to bless their host and reward him
bountifully.

The guest list was long and it included the crème
de la crème of the Islamic community in Accra and
some NPP Muslim members such as former National
Chairman, Harona Esseku; founder of NPP Nasara
Club, Alhaji Fusseini Maiga; Ahlaji Awudu Sadat,
aide to former Vice President Aliu Mahama and
former National Organiser, Moctar Musa Bamba.
