Police Seize Guns
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has found an
assortment of weapons including pump action guns
in the room of a man at Ogua, a small farming
community near Effiduase.

A certain Nana Otuo Acheampong, believed to be the
owner of the weapons, had concealed the 10 guns in
a shelf at a corner in his room for reasons best
known to himself.

The police, acting upon a tip-off, broke into the
room on Thursday evening around 8:00pm in the
absence of Nana Otuo Acheampong who had travelled
out of the region.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP
Augustine Gyenning, briefing the media, said the
police called Nana Otuo Acheampong on phone to
inform him about their operation in his room.

He disclosed that Nana Otuo Acheampong informed
the police that he had travelled to Accra,
promising to return early on Friday morning to
help the police in their investigations.

At the time of addressing the media on Friday
afternoon however, the said Nana Otuo Acheampong
had still not visited the Central Police Station
in Kumasi to help police in their investigations
as promised.

DCOP Gyenning said if Nana Otuo Acheampong failed
to report to the police, then his outfit would
declare him wanted and subsequently smoke him out
of his hideout to explain what he was doing with
the huge number of weapons.

The police, he stated, had just begun
investigations into the matter, stressing that the
suspect in the case was needed urgently by the
police to prove whether the guns were registered
and why he was hording a huge number of deadly
weapons in his room.

The seized items included three pump action guns,
two double-barrel guns, two locally-manufactured
pistols, one foreign pistol, one shotgun, one
single barrel gun, cartridges and ammunition for
the pistol.

DCOP Gyenning said the arrest of the guns, comes
in the wake of the shooting of a man and his wife
by assailants in the region, stating that the
operation formed part of the Ashanti Regional
Police Command's resolve to get rid of all illegal
weapons in circulation in the area.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander passionately
appealed to the general public to volunteer vital
information to the police to enable them to arrest
miscreants in society before they struck.
